This is Clarence's Louisiana Travel and Tourism Visitors Guide. Hi, my name is Clarence and I am a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I have compiled a lot of information about Louisiana that tourists find helpful. Please take the time to explore the many pages of this site. By the way, this site is just a hobby of mine and I don't make any money from it. This is located at www.cajunradio.org/louisianatraveltourismvisitors.html Please listen to Clarence's Cajun radio programs in Baton Rouge. South Louisiana is vastly different from the Northern part of the state. The bottom part of the state has the cajun and french personality, while the northern part tends to be more like Southern United States. If you are going to New Orleans, check out the French Quarter. I particularly like Pat O'Brian's bar and the Old Abstiste Bar. Pat O'Brian's is known for it's distinctive New Orleans outdoor courtyard and its sing-along piano bar. The old Abstiste Bar is where the Pirate Jean Lafitte used to hang out many years ago. After you go to New Orleans, continue your Louisiana travel to Baton Rouge. It is the Capital of the state and has a lot of sights to see. It is 90 minutes from New Orleans. Be sure to walk along the levee of the Mississippi River in downtown Baton Rouge. It is quite a sight to see. While you are there, you can visit the two casinos or the downtown restaurants and bars in the old section of town. During the day, check out the State Capital and ride the elevator to the top floor of the Capital building. At the top, there is an outdoor balcony where you can see for miles. It has a great view of the rest of the city and the Mississippi River. During the day, while you are in the downtown area, check out the old Arsenal building which is near the Capital building and is one of the oldest buildings in Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge has lots of Cajun music and some Zydeco music. I maintain a schedule of cajun and zydeco bands on this site. To find it, just refer to the site index. Also, one night have a meal at Boutin's Cajun restaurant. If you go in the evening, there is a cajun band playing while you eat. There is also a small dance floor for dancers. After you visit Baton Rouge, continue your Louisiana travel with a trip to the Lafayette area. Lafayette is one hour West of Baton Rouge. In Lafayette, there is a recreation of an 1800's Cajun village called "Vermillionville" that I highly recommended. Also, check out Randal's cajun restaurant and dance hall. There are a couple of great old dance halls called Hamilton's and Grant Street that might have Louisiana music on the night that you go. In nearby Breaux Bridge, there is the old cajun dance hall called "La Poussiere". This translates to "the dust" in english - it used to have a dirt floor and it got pretty dusty when people used to dance. Also in Breaux Bridge is Cafe des Amis that hosts a zydeco breakfast. it is also a "Bed and Breakfast" type of lodging. Just East of Lafayette is Whiskey River Landing and the town of Henderson. These are on the edge of the Atchafalaya swamp and they have places where you can get a swamp tour. Next, travel to the Louisiana area that is about an hour North of Lafayette. Saturday is a good day to be in the Eunice/Mamou Louisiana area. Saturday morning starts off with a Cajun band at Fred's Lounge in Mamou from 9am-1pm. Saturday afternon starts with the tour of the Liberty Theatre cultural center in nearby Eunice. Around 6:00 pm Saturday evening, the Liberty Theatre in Eunice plays host to the Cajun version of the Grand Ole Opra. Later that evening, head to nearby Opelousas to visit two famous zydeco clubs Richard's club and Slim's Y-Ki-Ki. These two clubs are out in the country about a half mile apart. Please continue to explore this site for links and more details for your Louisiana travel. I have links to many of the sites mentioned and many others. You will find my site index at the bottom of each page and on the left menu. Hope your visit in Louisiana is a bon temp!
