This is Clarence's list of Baton Rouge Christmas events. I have included information about various events in Baton Rouge La. The Baton Rouge Christmas parade is a lot of fun. Also, Baton Rouge ice skating is a favorite activity. In addition to ice skating in Baton Rouge, I have included information about the Baton Nutcracker. One of the popular christmas events in Baton Rouge is the Festival of Lights near North Blvd and the Baton Rouge River Center. A lot of the Christmas events are located in downtown Baton Rouge. There are also bonfires in nearby Port Allen and in Lutcher Louisiana. Mayor Holden will present Le Bâton de Noël, designed by nationally recognized artist Denise Greenwood, and a gift certificate to the winner of the Storefront Christmas Decorations Contest on the Downtown Festival of Lights main stage following the tree lighting on Friday, December 11. ** Bethlehem Village (5:30 pm – 7:30 pm) North Boulevard and Seventh Street Step back 2,000 years as you pass through the gates of Bethlehem into Bethlehem Village in the 700 block of North Boulevard. Musicians and characters in period dress will create a marketplace set in Biblical times. Children can craft homemade ornaments, and assemble care packages for the Homeless Center. Live music and roving characters will get everyone into the spirit. Be sure to stop by the storybook tent or have your face painted. Organized by First Presbyterian Church. ** Live Nativity Scene (5:45 pm, 7:00 pm) North Boulevard and Seventh Street Showings of the Live Nativity Production, including live animals and a live choir, facing North Boulevard on the East side of the Sanctuary. ** Free Hot Chocolate & Music (begins at 5:30 pm) First Baptist Church, 529 Convention Street ** Louisiana Art & Science Museum 100 River Road South, (225) 344-5272 When you bring the family downtown to see the lights, be sure to come down to LASM for holiday activities with Santa’s elves, a special planetarium show, and festive shopping. Catch the 5:00, 7:00, and 8:00 PM showings of the seasonal classic Holiday Music Magic (children under 3 are welcome), a program of holiday songs set to dancing laser images. Get a jump on Christmas shopping at the Museum Store, and join Santa’s elves in his workshop to make a special ornament for your tree. Finally, stay warm with hot cider and Christmas cookies. Admission is free with the donation of a new toy that benefits Toys for Tots (only one toy per person). Christmas Exhibit- Creole Christmas: An Exploration of Foreign Influences on Southern Christmas Celebrations Exhibit will explore the traditions, customs, and practices associated with Christmas in African Diaspora communities around the world especially those practiced in the southern United States and Louisiana.
